As a New Jersey real estate agent, I find it important to share information about local attractions and businesses. After all, if you’re moving to New Jersey, don’t you want to know the best places to visit around town? Local attractions are all part of the home-buying process!
Today, I’d like to introduce you to Turtle Back Zoo in West Orange, NJ. Whether you’re looking for somewhere to bring the kids, a first date idea, or a 500th date idea, Turtle Back Zoo has something for everyone of all ages.
Turtle Back Zoo was named New Jersey’s best zoo by NJ Monthly Magazine, and when you visit the website, you’ll see why. There is so much to do there! Aside from traditional animal exhibits, they also have an award-winning miniature golf course, Safari! Then, there are swan boats to rent, an ice arena, and TreeTop Adventure Course.
The adult TreeTop Adventure Course is 35 feet off the ground and includes 30 challenging elements. The junior course is 10 feet off the ground and includes 18 challenging elements. There is also a zip line. Harnesses and helmets are included. See what it’s like to be a monkey up there, swinging through the air!
This weekend, they have special Halloween events going on. Tomorrow, Oct. 25, head to Spooky Zoo from 6 to 9 p.m. This includes animal presentations, games, crafts, a not-so-scary train ride and more. Be sure to buy your tickets ahead of time in case it sells out! On Saturday, Oct. 26, stop by the Ampitheater Stage for Ghost Stories at 1:30 p.m. They are suitable for the whole family.
Then on Thursday, Halloween, visit the zoo between 4 and 9 p.m. for Howl-O-Ween! There will be 30 candy stations throughout the grounds to trick-or-treat at, along with no-so-scary train rides. Be sure to wear a costume!
If you head to the zoo to see the animals, you will not leave disappointed. The newest exhibit features sea lions and a sting ray touch tank. Then there are the penguins, cats, wolves, prairie dogs, farm animals, tropical fish, bears, bison and so much more.
Turtle Back Zoo is open every day of the year aside from Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Day. Prices get cheaper after Nov. 1, the off season, so plan your visit then! Hours are 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Sundays.
Keep kids entertained with the carousel, pony rides and playground. For children, adults and seniors, take a break from walking with the wheelchair-accessible train rides through the zoo.
