As your Millburn-Short Hills real estate agent, I want to make sure you’re prepared for the busy weekend ahead in Millburn and Short Hills, NJ. Tomorrow, hopefully you get to relax in your home while cooking, eating and lounging around with friends and family for Thanksgiving. Come Friday and Saturday, the stores will be booming with specials, and then Sunday is the Snowflake Parade!
Here’s a rundown of what’s going on in the next few days:
If you’re in the mood for fighting crowds and eager holiday shoppers, you can score some great deals at the stores. Give the Mall at Short Hills a visit! That way, all the stores are together and you don’t have to fight the street traffic, too.
If you care more about creating memorable experiences than purchasing gifts for under the tree, head to Turtle Back Zoo in West Orange, NJ! Their annual Essex County Holiday Lights Spectacular returns on Nov. 29. This features 50 animal and holiday figures illuminated by over 100,000 lights! Admission and parking is free and open to the public. Non-perishable food items are encouraged, along with new unwrapped toys and new and gently used coats for all those in need.
Small Business Saturday
This day is all about supporting small businesses in your community rather than the corporate chain stores. When you shop local, more than 50 percent of the money you spend stays in the community. You are helping your community strive and you are getting original, one-of-a-kind gifts.
So on Nov. 30, head Downtown Millburn to shop and support one of the many small businesses that reside there. Downtown Millburn has over 20 new small businesses that have opened this year alone, and it’s home to a brand-new parking deck on the corner of Essex Street and Lackawanna Place!
Or, head to Maplewood, NJ to shop for artisan crafted gifts and goodies. From hand-crafted chocolates, soaps, lotions, jewelry, clothing and more, chances are, you will meet the person who made the item you are buying. Take advantage and support our family-owned businesses that make up Main Street America.
The holiday season really begins with the 30th Annual Snowflake Parade on Sunday, Dec. 1! Head Downtown Millburn at 1:30 p.m. to Millburn Avenue, between Holmes and Spring Streets. Bundle up while enjoying professional bands, clowns, costumed characters and more, which the kids will love! Afterward, enjoy free refreshments and photos with Santa in the Court Yard behind Dunkin Donuts. If it rains, the rain date is Dec. 8.
